A garden tree close to fencing and a shed

A tree removal has to fit the garden around it. In this project, several substantial stems rose above a residential boundary, with timber fence panels, concrete posts and a grey shed close by. The photographs taken from inside the garden show the tree alongside the seating area and established planting.

Our team took down the tree, working through the branches and remaining trunk sections. The sequence gives a useful view of a domestic tree-removal job where the surrounding space matters. It also shows why an initial enquiry should include the whole tree and the features around its base, rather than only a close-up of one branch.

What the removal photographs show

The two starting views show the tree standing within the garden. The following photographs were taken after work had begun: cut branches are visible on the ground, while the main stems still rise above the boundary. Later views show more of the lower stems exposed and a larger quantity of leafy branches in the working area.

Towards the end of the sequence, the crown has been removed from the photographed stems and shorter trunk sections remain beside the fence posts. The last view shows the cut stump. Keeping these stages together helps explain the job more clearly than a single finished image, especially when the final photograph is a close-up rather than a wide view of the whole garden.

The stump remains after the tree is taken down

The final photograph shows a low cut stump beside the timber fence, with planting and wood shavings around it. Taking down the above-ground tree and removing its stump are different parts of a project. A removal quote should make the intended finish clear so you know what will remain at ground level.

What happens next depends on how you want to use that part of the garden. A new planting bed, lawn, path or fence position can each call for a different approach. Tell our team about those plans when you enquire. Any proposed stump treatment, grinding or root excavation needs its own assessment and an agreed scope; availability and suitability depend on the site.

Plan access around the garden features

Fences, sheds, walls and neighbouring gardens affect the space available for tree work. Gate width, steps and the route between the tree and the property entrance also matter when handling equipment and cut material. Show these details in your photos, including anything that is difficult to see from the usual garden view.

Photos are a useful way to start the conversation, but a tree close to buildings, cables or a boundary may need an on-site assessment before the work can be priced. Our team confirms the work we can undertake and explains when a specialist approach is needed. Tree protection and wildlife checks also need to be resolved before cutting is arranged.

Getting a useful tree-removal quote

There is no reliable single price for every garden tree. Size and condition, the proposed work, nearby features, access and the amount of cut material all influence the plan. Stump requirements can change the scope too. A smaller tree in an open garden can be a very different job from a larger tree beside a shed or boundary.

For an initial enquiry, send your postcode, a full ground-level view of the tree, a view of its base and the access route. Explain the result you want and whether you need cut branches and timber removed or retained. Include any deadline, then our team can discuss the next step, assessment requirements and availability with you.

01

Show the full setting

Include the tree, its base, nearby buildings and fencing, plus the route into the garden. These views help our team understand the access constraints.

02

Agree the finish

Tree removal, handling cut material and any stump work need a clear scope. Explain what you want to do with the space afterwards.

03

Choose the right work

Removal is one option. Where a tree can be retained, suitable pruning or reduction may meet your aims. Tell us the problem you want to solve.

A polite, methodical approach

Patricia's tree-felling review praises the work ethic and methodical approach. Our photographed removals show different garden settings; send pictures of your tree, nearby structures and access so we can assess your own job.

Pruning within wider garden work

Annie's review identifies tree pruning alongside weeding and shrub cutting. Removal and pruning are different scopes: explain what you want retained and what needs attention before the work is assessed.

Questions about arranging garden tree removal

Useful details to discuss before a similar tree-removal job is agreed.

Explore Tree Surgery – Pruning, Reductions & Tree Removal
Can you assess a tree beside a fence or shed?

Yes, send wide ground-level photos showing the tree, fence, shed and access route. The available space affects the removal plan. An on-site assessment may be needed, and we confirm what our team can undertake before quoting or booking.

Does tree removal include taking out the stump?

The agreed quote determines the finish. Taking down the above-ground tree does not automatically include stump grinding or root excavation. This gallery ends with a remaining cut stump. Tell us your plans for the space so any further stump work can be assessed separately.

Are branches and timber taken away?

Waste arrangements need to be agreed with the work. Tell us whether you want the cut material removed or would like suitable timber retained. Access and the quantity of material affect those arrangements, so the quote should state what is included.

How much does a garden tree removal cost?

The price depends on the tree, the scope, nearby features, access and handling of cut material. Stump work may add a separate requirement. Send full tree and access photos with your postcode for an initial discussion; some jobs need a site assessment before a quote.

Could pruning or reduction be suitable instead of removal?

It may be, depending on the species, condition and the result you want. Describe the problem, such as overhang or the size of the canopy, and show the whole tree. Our team can discuss suitable options and explain when further specialist advice is needed.

What photos should I send with my enquiry?

Send a full view of the tree from ground level, a photo of its base and views of nearby buildings, fences or cables. Include the gate and access route, your postcode and the work you want. Photos help start the assessment without needing you to climb or enter an awkward area.

Do I need permission before a tree is removed?

Check with your local council whether the tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or conservation-area rules. Other site and wildlife restrictions may also apply. Permission and notification requirements need to be resolved before cutting is arranged, with the relevant authority’s rules checked for your location.

Can I arrange tree work outside Chester?

CPAGM covers Chester and surrounding service areas. Send your postcode so our team can check coverage, travel and availability for your job. The area links on this page describe our service coverage and help you find the relevant local information.

Can the space be replanted after tree removal?

Future planting depends on the remaining stump and roots, ground conditions and what you want to grow. Tell us your plans before the scope is agreed. Taking down a tree does not by itself prepare a new planting bed or remove the roots.
