Mold sits down in the sheltered Alyn valley with the Clwydian hills rising behind it, so unlike the wind-blasted estate gardens out at Flint or up on Buckley ridge, the trees here are often big established broadleaves — mature oak, beech, sycamore and ash in the older gardens off Chester Street, around King Street and on the leafier roads climbing west toward Gwernaffield and Pant-y-Mwyn.
