A tidy-up around the garden’s existing shape

This garden already had a clear layout: a lawn wrapped by curved planted beds, a hedge beside the conservatory, a patio and a wooden bench beneath a purple-leaved tree. The work was to tidy the growth within that familiar setting. Our team weeded the borders, cut the grass and trimmed the hedge and shrubs.

The starting photographs show low vegetation between the border plants, longer grass and projecting growth along the hedge face. The finished views bring the curved edges and individual plants into clearer view. Mature trees and established planting still give the garden its character, while the lawns and hedge have a neater finish.

Weeding the borders around retained plants

The clearest change in the borders is the visible soil around the retained planting. Along the curved bed near the patio, low growth had filled much of the space between the shrubs and smaller plants. Afterwards, the bed’s shape is easier to follow and the individual plants stand out against the cleared soil.

A border tidy-up needs clear priorities. Some low-growing plants may be part of the planting scheme, so tell our team which plants you want to keep and point out anything you are unsure about. Weeding also belongs in a continuing maintenance plan: new seedlings and regrowth can need attention after the initial visit, particularly in an established mixed border.

Grass cutting in the front and back garden

The finished back lawn has visible mowing stripes running towards the bench and the mature planting. Its curved sides sit beside the weeded beds, so the lawn and border work complement each other. A closer view near the conservatory shows the cut grass alongside the newly clearer soil beneath the hedge.

Two finished photographs also show the front lawn beside the pavement and driveway. The grass has been cut in stripes, with a tidier planting bed along the house and a shaped shrub near the drive. These front views are included as finished photographs; the supplied starting views are of the back garden.

Hedge and shrub trimming within the existing layout

The hedge beside the conservatory provides a useful comparison. The starting view has projecting growth along the face, while the later views show a tidier outline above the weeded bed. The hedge continues to form the garden boundary. Our team also trimmed shrubs as part of the tidy-up, with retained planting visible throughout the finished photographs.

When you enquire about similar work, show the full hedge run and the shrubs you want attended to. Explain whether the priority is a light trim, a particular shape or a larger change in size. The plant, its condition and the available access affect what is suitable. Trimming and a substantial reduction should be discussed as different scopes before the work is agreed.

Agree the tasks for your garden visit

A useful garden tidy-up quote starts with a task list. Tell us which lawn areas need cutting, which borders need weeding and which hedges or shrubs need trimming. Include the result you want and any plants or features to work around. The garden’s starting condition matters as much as its overall size.

Send wide photos, your postcode and views of the gate or side access. Tell us how you want grass clippings and other cut material handled, and mention any pets, delicate planting or awkward areas. Our team can then discuss the scope, whether a site visit is needed, the price and available dates. A clear first visit also makes it easier to plan future upkeep.

Keeping a tidy garden manageable

A one-off tidy-up can restore the main lawn, hedge and border areas, but each will need attention again as the garden grows. The useful next step is to decide which tasks you want help with regularly. Grass cutting, border weeding and trimming can be planned around the season, the planting and the finish you prefer.

Our other garden galleries show different starting conditions and scopes, from a straightforward grass cut to a larger hedge reduction and tidy-up. Use them to describe what you need rather than assume every garden requires the same work. Questions about garden tidy-ups, weeding and mowing

Practical points to discuss when arranging similar garden work.

Explore Garden Maintenance
Can a garden tidy-up combine weeding, mowing and hedge trimming?

Yes. Tell our team which lawn areas, borders, hedges and shrubs need attention so a suitable scope can be agreed. This project combined those tasks in an established garden. Access, growth and the plants you want retained help determine the work.

Can you cut both the front and back lawn?

Include photos of both lawns and explain the access between them. Our team can assess the areas you want cut and agree them in the quote. This gallery includes finished front-lawn views as well as the back-garden comparison.

How do I explain which border plants should stay?

Send close-ups alongside wide views, and point out valued plants, bulbs or ground cover. If you are unsure whether a plant should be removed, say so before the visit. We agree the weeding priorities around the planting you want to retain.

Does weeding stop all future growth?

A weeding visit tidies the agreed areas, but new seedlings or regrowth can need further attention. The follow-up depends on the growth and the agreed method. Regular border maintenance can help keep the garden manageable after the first tidy-up.

Is hedge trimming the same as reducing its height or width?

A maintenance trim and a larger reduction are different scopes. Show the hedge and explain the shape or size you want. The species, condition, screening and access affect what is suitable, so our team discusses the intended finish before cutting.

Are grass clippings and hedge cuttings removed?

Cut-material handling should be stated in the quote. Tell us whether you want it taken away or have an agreed place for suitable garden material. The volume and access affect the arrangements, so it is useful to discuss them before booking.

How much does a one-off garden tidy-up cost?

The price depends on the areas, starting growth and tasks agreed, including mowing, weeding and trimming. Access and cut-material handling can also affect the work. Send photos and your postcode for an initial discussion; some gardens need a site visit before the quote.

Can I arrange regular maintenance after the tidy-up?

Yes, you can ask about ongoing upkeep. Tell us which tasks you want help with and the finish you prefer. Our team discusses suitable priorities, visit frequency and availability rather than assume the first tidy-up and every later visit need the same work.

What do you need to assess my garden?

Send your postcode, wide views of each working area and a short list of the tasks. Include the gate or side access and any plants or features to work around. Let us know whether you want a one-off tidy or regular visits, then we can discuss the next step.
