Newton's front gardens were paved over for parking long ago, and that is where most of our pressure washing work here happens. Along Newton Lane and Kingsway you get everything from original concrete drives and old riven flags to block paving and imprinted concrete laid in the last twenty years, while the Plas Newton estate has plain flagged paths and rear patios. Two things drive the problem. The street trees drop leaf litter and sap that stain pale surfaces, and the side passages between the semis sit in permanent shade, so they go green and slippery every winter. On the drives it is oil drips, tyre marks and faded imprinted concrete; on the rear patios it is black spot lichen and algae on the shaded side. We identify the surface first and choose the method to suit it, because a ninety-year-old concrete drive and a modern block-paved one need different pressure and different treatments. After the clean and rinse we apply whatever has been agreed — a black spot treatment, an oil and stain treatment, or a seal to bring the colour back and keep it cleaner for longer.
