Solar Panel Cleaning

Bird mess and grime cleared from a roof-mounted solar array

Heavy bird mess and weathered grime were loosened with a water-fed pole and soft brush, then the complete roof-mounted array was rinsed and checked for a clearer, more even finish.

The job

What needed doing

The roof-mounted array had visible bird mess, grime and organic build-up spread across multiple panels. The contamination was especially clear in the closer views and around the lower edges. The job needed careful, panel-by-panel coverage using a reach pole and soft brush, with the finished surface checked from more than one angle.

The widespread marks were removed and the panel glass was left visibly clearer across the array. Electricity generation was not measured during the visit, so the result shown here is the finished condition of the panels rather than a claimed percentage increase in output.

Work completed

Checked the roof layout, panel condition and working access before cleaning
Worked across the array with a water-fed reach pole and soft brush
Loosened and rinsed visible bird mess, grime and organic deposits
Covered the panel rows methodically rather than treating only the worst marks
Reviewed the finished array from wide and close viewpoints

Customer benefits

Before, during and after photos let you inspect the condition and finish
A reach-pole approach avoids pressure-washing the panel surface
Clearer glass removes visible material that can shade parts of the cells

Worth dealing with early

Bird mess and layered grime can shade sections of the panel surface
Deposits left to dry and bake on can become harder to remove carefully
DIY roof access and unsuitable pressure washing can introduce avoidable risk

From assessment to finish

How the work moved through each stage

Good results start with checking the condition, planning the work and finishing with a final quality check. These are the practical stages used for this job.

  1. 01Access and condition check
  2. 02Wet and loosen deposits
  3. 03Soft-brush panel coverage
  4. 04Rinse the full array
  5. 05Final visual check

How the clean was handled

A careful clean from first rinse to final check

Bird mess had dried across several panels, with grime sitting around the glass and lower frames. Martin worked across the full array methodically, using a reach pole and soft brush before checking the finish from both close and wider viewpoints.

01

Check the array and access first

The roof layout, panel condition and safe working position are checked before cleaning starts. That makes it easier to plan the reach and cover every row without rushing the awkward sections.

02

Use a soft brush, not pressure

A water-fed pole and suitable soft brush loosen the build-up without abrasive tools or a pressure washer being used on the panel glass.

03

Work across every panel

The bird mess and grime were spread over several rows, so the clean continued panel by panel instead of stopping once the most obvious marks had lifted.

04

Finish with a visual check

The finished array was checked from more than one angle for missed deposits and an even result. Output varies by system and weather, and no generation readings were taken during this visit.

Solar panel cleaning questions

Panel count, roof height, access and the type of contamination all affect the safest method and the quote. These answers explain what this service covers before Martin confirms the job.

Explore Solar Panel Cleaning
Can dirty solar panels lose electricity output?

Dirt, bird mess and other deposits can shade parts of the panel surface, so cleaning may help where soiling is restricting the light reaching the cells. The effect varies by system and condition. No generation readings were taken on this photographed job, so CPAGM does not claim a percentage uplift from these images alone.

How are roof-mounted solar panels cleaned?

CPAGM checks the panel layout and access first, then uses a water-fed reach pole and suitable soft brush from safe access where practical. The aim is to loosen and rinse contamination without pressure-washing the panels or using abrasive tools on the glass.

How often should solar panels be professionally cleaned?

There is no single schedule for every roof. A yearly visual check is a useful starting point, but panels near trees, nesting birds, busy roads or open fields may need attention sooner. Visible bird mess, algae or a film that rain is not shifting are practical signs to ask for advice.

Which areas does CPAGM cover for solar panel cleaning?

CPAGM is based in Chester and normally works within roughly a 45-minute service radius, including nearby parts of Cheshire, Wirral, Deeside and the North Wales border. Send the postcode and panel photos so travel, access and availability can be confirmed for your property.

What should I send for a solar panel cleaning quote?

Send a wide photo of the whole array, an estimate of the panel count, a view showing the roof height and a photo of the ground access below. Close-ups of bird mess, algae or stubborn marks help Martin understand the condition before confirming the scope and price.
