The job

What needed doing

The customer had been stacking boxes straight onto the loft joists and was worried about standing up there safely. They wanted usable storage space without flattening the insulation, and asked whether a loft ladder could be fitted at the same time to make getting up and down easier.

The customer had a firm, boarded area to store things on and a proper ladder for access, with the insulation left at its full depth so it could still do its job.

Work completed

Checked the joists, existing insulation depth and safe footing before starting
Fitted raised battens so the boarding sat above the insulation without compressing it
Laid and secured loft boarding across the battened area to give a stable storage surface
Fitted a loft ladder and left clear access for getting in and out safely
