The job

What needed doing

The existing timber was still serviceable, but exposure had left the fence boards grey and uneven, with green growth visible along the sheltered side access. The decking had also faded to a pale, tired finish. The aim was to revive both surfaces, work carefully around the fixed hot tub and garden furniture, and make the separate timber areas feel like one maintained outdoor space.

The garden now has a clear, coordinated finish: warm fencing frames the space while the darker decking defines the seating and access areas. Keeping the sound timber and restoring it in place avoided unnecessary replacement, while the fresh exterior treatments give the surfaces a more cared-for appearance and renewed protection from the weather.

Work completed

Inspected the fence boards, decking, edges and access route before starting
Protected the surrounding area and worked carefully around the hot tub, furniture and planted sections
Cleaned and prepared the weathered timber so the new finish could be applied more evenly
Treated the fencing in a warm timber tone, including the long boundary runs and narrow side access
Finished the decking in a contrasting dark tone across the main area, steps and connecting walkway
Checked the edges and coverage, then left the outdoor space tidy and ready to use
