Project photographs and planning
Our tree-needle gallery shows loose deposits cleared from a tiled roof around a rooflight. The later photographs still show the roof's weathered surface. Use this example to discuss the build-up on your roof and whether you need debris clearance, moss removal or another assessed cleaning scope.
The cards give the recorded job location. Open a gallery to see its photographs, completed work and project details.
Take ground-level views of the affected slopes, rooflights, gutters and the space below the roof. Tell us about known leaks, loose tiles or previous work. Access around extensions, planting and neighbouring boundaries affects the plan. Cleaning, gutter clearance, treatments and repairs should each be identified in the quote.
Send your Lymm postcode with photos of the work and its access. Our team checks the scope, travel and assessment requirements, then confirms the price and available dates for your property.

Lymm is one of the leafiest places we work — mature oaks and beeches around the Dam, the canal corridor and all those wooded plots off Higher Lane and Booths Hill keep roofs shaded and damp for most of the year. That is moss heaven. North-facing slopes barely see the sun, leaf litter sits in the valleys, and on the older sandstone cottages near the village centre and the big detached houses out toward Oughtrington you get thick green moss on the tiles and dark algae streaks running down the roof. It looks tired, but more to the point clumps of moss break off and block gutters and downpipes. We work down off the ridge, scrape and brush the moss away by hand rather than blasting it with a pressure washer, clear the debris out of the gutters while we are up there, and finish with a biocide so it stays cleaner for longer instead of greening straight back up.

Lymm is heavily wooded and damp — all the trees around the Dam and canal keep roofs shaded, so they stay wet and grow moss and algae much faster than open sites. North-facing slopes are usually the worst.
We don't jet wash. High pressure can lift and crack tiles and force water under them. We work off the ridge, brush and scrape the moss off carefully, clear the gutters, then apply a biocide so it grows back far slower.
With the biocide we finish with, most Lymm roofs stay noticeably cleaner for a few years, though in the most shaded, tree-heavy spots near the Dam it regrows sooner. Keeping the gutters and valleys clear of leaf litter slows the moss coming back more than anything else.
Both. It looks tired, but the real issue is clumps breaking off and washing into gutters and downpipes, which then block and overflow. Moss also holds damp against the tiles on Lymm's shaded slopes, so clearing it protects the roof, not just its appearance.
Spring and late summer work well — the roof is drier to work on and the biocide has time to act before the wet months. In Lymm's shaded gardens roofs rarely dry out fully, so we can work most of the year; we just pick a settled spell.
Usually, yes. Two or three photos that show the whole job and the access are normally enough for a firm price. Larger or access-sensitive work may need a short visit first, and we will say so.

Other areas we cover
Scrape the moss off by hand, working down the slope, then apply a biocide so the spores left behind die off. Avoid jet-washing most tiles: high pressure can damage the surface and force water underneath. It is work at height, so it needs the right access equipment.
A little is mostly cosmetic, but thick moss holds water against the tiles, can lift them when it freezes, and washes into the gutters and blocks them. Clearing it every few years stops those knock-on problems.
Autumn is a good time, once most leaves are down and before the frosts, so moss isn't holding water against the tiles through winter. A biocide can go on through much of the year; the key is treating the roof after it is cleaned.
Apply a biocide after cleaning, cut back branches that shade the roof and keep the gutters clear. Shaded and north-facing roofs still green over slowly, so a check and treatment every few years keeps moss under control.
